The Mimes
Studio

Stefan Niedziałkowski’s The Mimes Studio has been in existence in Warsaw since 1994. The Mimes Studio's original location was "Teatr na Woli" theatre, where it functioned for ten years. In 2005, the Studio has moved to the Mazovia Institute of Culture. The basic task for its students is to learn mime art and especially to participate in workshops and regular classes designed to develop the participants' creativity and encourage a unique and personal approach to theatre. During Stefan Niedziałkowski's classes, students develop new ways of expressing values and notions which transgress spoken word. As a result of various exercises, they gradually gain control over their thoughts and the movements of their bodies. The aim of Stefan Niedziałkowski's method of teaching mime art is to ensure that the mime actor's body becomes a mirror for his thoughts and emotions. Finally, the student is encouraged to find their own “technique”/”style”/“expression” to show human inner experiences in a universal way. The exercises presented by Stefan Niedziałkowski are geared to the level of physical condition of the students and no previous experiences is required. Classical mime is being used as a foundation for an in–depth exploration of the world of thoughts and emotional experiences. During the classes Stefan Niedziałkowski proposes general physical exercises, specific mime exercises, isolations, coordination of movement, breathing techniques, identifications exercises, and finally—improvisation.
